Nigeria, Poland Sign Pact on Agriculture, Others

To cushion the effect of global food insecurity occasioned by the conflict in Ukraine, Nigeria and Poland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on agriculture. The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, signed the MOU to strengthen collaboration between both countries in areas of agriculture, energy and defense. Briefing journalists at the front porch of the presidential villa shortly after a closed-door session with the Nigerian leader in Abuja, on Tuesday, Duda stressed that the MoU became necessary as a result of the food crisis brought about by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. According to him, Poland is supporting affected states and its partner countries to boost agricultural yield, adding that in the energy dimension, Nigeria, being rich in gas, will ensure a steady increase of supply to Poland and the rest of the European Union. “I hope we’re going to see some fruit in this memorandum we have signed,” he pointed out. On his part, Buhari noted that both countries have reached agreements to increase collaboration in agriculture, energy and defense. According to him, the partnership would be a win-win for the two countries, especially in the context of limiting the effect of global food insecurity, among others.
