NASTAG SALUTES GHANAIAN FARMERS
ON December 1, 2017, in celebration of Ghana’s 33rd National Farmers’ Day (NFD), the National Executive Council, on behalf of the National Seed Trade Association of Ghana (NASTAG) commends all hardworking Ghanaian farmers.
Farmers Day, led by the Government of Ghana is a unique occasion to honour farmers who work tirelessly to feed their families and supply Ghana’s industries with agricultural produce. NFD is a call to action for all agriculture stakeholders, but most importantly seed value chain actors to recognize the crucial role farmers play in Ghana’s sustainable development. Despite the huge challenges confronting Ghana’s agricultural industry such as: climate-change and erratic weather conditions; the infestation of the fall armyworm; lack of access to financing and investments; limited marketing opportunities for efficient value addition; and minimal post-harvest infrastructure— the efforts of Ghanaian farmers are laudable.
The theme for this year’s NFD celebration: “Farming for Food and Jobs” aims to revive Ghana’s agriculture sector which is crucial to promoting broad-based and inclusive economic growth. These efforts involve ensuring smallholder farmers gain access to quality agricultural inputs, like certified seed.
