Civil Society Advocates Improved Agricultural Extension Service Delivery for Smallholder Farmers

To improve productivity and income of smallholder farmers, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has organised a consultative forum to close gaps in Nigeria’s agricultural extension service delivery. AgroNigeria gathered that the consultative forum was hosted in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Agriculture in Lafia, on Tuesday. Speaking, the Programme Manager, Environment and Conservation of Nature, CISLAC, Chinedu Bassey, explained that the centre, with support from Oxfam, is committed to supporting programmes aimed at reducing poverty, inequality and improving the livelihood of citizens. Bassey noted that Nasarawa and Bauchi were the two states chosen to benefit from CISLAC’s support in the area of agriculture due to their agricultural endowment. He said, “Agriculture is one of the sectors that can generate job opportunities for people at the grassroots, particularly for women and youths. “CISLAC is in the state to support agricultural activities that will reduce poverty and inequality in reflection of its core mandate.”
