AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIALISATION AGENDA: ANCHOR OFF-TAKES 54, 000 BROILERS FROM OGUN
Fifty-four thousand broilers have
been off-taken by a private company in Ogun State, as part of benefits derived
from the state’s agricultural industrialisation programmes.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said this at the official
commissioning of the Ogun Broiler Project, at the Odeda Farm Institute.
Represented by Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, the governor
said the state is not only ready to empower youths for sustainability, but also
to discharge them into opportunities, which would be of immense benefit to
individuals and the state.
He said the day-old chicks distributed to beneficiaries over five weeks ago had
been handed over to the off-takers, AMOBYN Farms, who bought them, while the
beneficiaries would start another cycle in a few weeks, saying each beneficiary
would earn a profit of about N140, 000 per cycle.
While thanking the
Bank of Industry (BoI) for providing financial support for the project, the
governor said: “The state cannot only create employment opportunities, but also
create smart farmers who would encourage other youths to participate in
agribusiness through their success stories.”
The Chief Executive Officer, AMOBYN Farms Nigeria Limited, Dr Ayoola Oduntan
noted that the project is in line with the state’s agenda to empower youths,
create jobs, wealth, food sustainability and other opportunities along the
value chain, saying his company chose the state because it is the largest
producer of poultry products in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Taiwo Solesi, lauded the state
government for the opportunity, saying they would contribute their quota in
taking agriculture to greater heights and make the state the food basket of the
nation.
